Committee for Children Names Director of Resource Development
Seattle, WA—Committee for Children has named Jane Nakagawa as director of resource development.
Nakagawa has been involved in fundraising and nonprofit management for over 20 years, including 12 years at The United Way of the Bay Area, where she served as senior vice president. In that role, she oversaw the development of strategic philanthropy initiatives for the organization and served as a member of the executive management team. At the United Way, Nakagawa worked with Japanese corporate leaders to establish the successful Japanese Executive Council responsible for introducing corporate philanthropy through United Way to Japan-based corporations.
After moving to Seattle, Nakagawa became executive director of the North Seattle Community College Education Fund (formerly the North Seattle Community College Foundation). During her seven-year tenure, Nakagawa oversaw an increase in fundraising initiatives, created the annual “North Passport” fundraising event, enhanced board and operational structures, and developed organizational marketing tools. She received a League for Innovation for Community Colleges Award for her leadership of a community-wide program called Civil Liberties Celebration, which brought attention to important civil liberty issues while focusing on the Japanese-American WWII experience.
“Jane brings just the right mix of skills and experience to us as we continue to enhance our capacity to fulfill our mission to foster the social and emotional development, safety, and well-being of children through education and advocacy,” said Joan Duffell, executive director of Committee for Children.
Nakagawa has a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University at San Jose.
