Research Scientist

These programs help more than 13 million children each year stay safe, respect themselves and others, succeed in school today, and build a better world for tomorrow.

The research scientist is responsible for providing expertise for curriculum and product development projects. This role requires quickly understanding pertinent research and translating this research to be adapted into product and curriculum development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides research expertise for development projects
  • Conduct literature reviews and translate current research into school-based prevention programs
  • Assist development teams in incorporating research appropriately into programs
  • Plan, design, implement, and manage scientifically rigorous applied research and evaluation studies of our programs
  • Plan and design evaluations of our products
  • Execute evaluation plans including data collection and data analysis
  • Write reports and detail implications from evaluations of our products
  • Effectively provides information about CfC programs to a variety of audiences
  • Travels on business related to obtaining knowledge for the development of programs or work-related skills, conference presentations, and/or professional development
  • Provides information or training to clients and other external individuals about the content of our program
  • Contributes collaboratively with other department members in support of general program development content
  • Review and provide content for other departments (i.e. Marketing, Communications, International, NMV)


  • Ph.D. in education, social work, sociology, psychology, public health or a related social science discipline or related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in applied research or program evaluation settings
  • Experience working in and contributing to collaborative research teams
  • Expert knowledge of prevention research, education research, teacher training, implementation science
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • A publication record with at least 3 first author publications, preferably in the area of prevention
  • Experience developing relationships and partnerships with other organizations
  • Excellent computer skills are required: Microsoft Office programs, Analytical software programs (e.g. SPSS, HLM, AMOS)
  • Position requires local travel and occasional out-of-state overnight travel (up to) 15% of the time
