Impulsive Puppy made some new friends recently when a West Virginia Head Start Center introduced the SECOND STEP program to its students. A local councilman was also on hand for the introduction because, he said, “Programs like these have a lasting effect.”

The emphasis on empathy in schools nationwide is the latest front in a decade-long campaign against bullying and violence. Many urban districts have found empathy workshops and curricula help curb fighting and other misbehavior.
