Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) Kit for Children Ages 2-5

The SECOND STEP and DECA Programs
Work Together

The DECA Kit consists of a user-friendly, strength-based standardized assessment for children ages two to five, with instructions for administering, scoring, and interpreting the results and a screener for behavioral concerns.

The DECA Kit can be used together with the
SECOND STEP program to assess, build, and strengthen children's social skills, protective factors, and resilience. Watch a video and download a free outcome report of an early childhood program's use of the DECA and SECOND STEP programs.

SECOND STEP-DECA Alignment Chart
Download an alignment chart (PDF) to see how the concepts taught in SECOND STEP lessons link to DECA protective factors and strategies for the classroom.

"They each complement and reinforce what the other is doing. DECA helps us assess the classroom, and the SECOND STEP program gives teachers something concrete to follow through with. They go hand in hand."
