Success Story: Training Made the Difference
Kevin Soraghan, Principal
Spofford Pond School
Boxford, MA
Principal Kevin Soraghan and his staff at Spofford Pond School were only able to find the time to bring students together once a month for STEPS TO RESPECT lessons, and the concepts weren’t permeating the school the way they wanted. They needed help. Soraghan “wanted to bring ‘STEPS TO RESPECT’ to the culture of the school itself, and that’s why we ended up at the training in the fall.”
Soraghan, his assistant principal, and five colleagues attended a STEPS TO RESPECT Facilitator Training. “What I got out of the training was a better understanding of the program, and it has helped us to make it a part of what we do at the school so that we’re all on the same page.”
As a result, Soraghan feels that his students are “more conscious of the impact of their behaviors,” and would recommend that any educator implementing the program do the training first. “If you’re going to be able to implement the program fully, it’s going to make a difference in how kids see their actions.” And thanks to the STEPS TO RESPECT Facilitator Training, says Soraghan, “We’re getting there.”
