WOVEN WORD Overview

Inspire Children with Reading
Sitting down with children and reading them a story is an incredibly rewarding experience for both the children and the adult. Storytelling builds a solid foundation for early reading skills and develops a child's love for books.

The WOVEN WORD program uses an effective method to help preschool and kindergarten children develop reading skills. At the same time, it promotes social and emotional skills that help them succeed in academic and social situations.

Using a shared approach called dialogic reading, adults read stories and ask children questions. Children are encouraged to talk about the feelings and problems of characters in the stories and how they translate to the children's own experiences. This process strengthens oral language, vocabulary, comprehension, and social and emotional skills.

Make the Most of Story Time
The WOVEN WORD program's engaging activities and materials help young children:

  • Become better listeners.
  • Increase vocabulary.
  • Learn positive ways to interact with others.
  • Develop language skills to express thoughts and feelings.

Busy teachers will appreciate the thoughtful WOVEN WORD lessons, chances to involve families, and activities that make the most of story time. The program's techniques can be used with any book, in the classroom or at home.
