Book Review: Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon by Patty Lovell
Tell everyone about the important work you're doing to support a safe and respectful school community. Parents will be thrilled. New staff and students will breathe a sigh of relief. And everyone else will benefit from a reminder that bullying in your school is never okay. Here are some ideas for making sure everyone's in the loop.
School Assembly
Schedule a school assembly to remind returning students and inform new students about your bullying-prevention policy. The assembly might include an address from the principal, skits and role-plays by students, and STEPS TO RESPECT video vignettes.
Family Connections
If you haven't done so already, send home a letter to families to let them know about your bullying-prevention policy and the STEPS TO RESPECT program. The Program Guide includes a letter you can tailor to your needs (Appendix F).
Booster Training
Early fall is a good time for the first STEPS TO RESPECT Booster Training: Creating and Supporting a Positive School Climate. The training only takes 30 minutes, and it's a great way to bring staff together to generate ideas for creating and sustaining a positive climate in your school.
If you'd like additional ideas for bringing your school community together in support of safety and respect, contact our program implementation specialists. They have lots of experience in the classroom and with the program.
