Seven Strategies for Developing Capable Students: Responsible, Respectful, and Resourceful by H. Stephen Glenn and Michael L. Brock

Reading level: Adult

If I had to recommend only one book to new teachers, this would be the one. 7 Strategies for Developing Capable Students: Responsible, Respectful, and Resourceful is designed for both parents and teachers and focuses on the importance of children's social and emotional development.

Dr. Glenn has done a wonderful job of combining sound philosophy about the importance of emotional intelligence, resiliency characteristics, and prosocial skills development. The text provides real-world strategies for character and intrapersonal skills development. It has been my experience in staff development that teachers are hungry for strategies that adequately address the multitude of developmental issues students face. This book delivers.
