Frequently Asked Questions

Common Questions from Our Clients

Funding

How can I get funding for your programs?
We can't provide funding for our programs, but we do offer regularly updated funding tips, lists of grant opportunities, and information on federal funding. See our Explore Funding section under Support & Resources.

Teaching the Lessons

Do I need one curriculum kit for every teacher?
According to best practices, one kit per teacher is ideal. If this is not possible, please contact Client Support Services at info@cfchildren.org or 800-634-4449, ext. 200 for ideas for adapting and implementing our programs.

Do I have to teach the lessons in order?
Yes! Our programs are designed to be taught sequentially. The skills learned in one lesson will prepare students for the next.

Do I have to teach all the lessons?
It's best to complete all lessons, but it's more important to make sure the students are truly learning the concepts and skills. Therefore, it may be necessary to take more time with some lessons than others.

Where can I find parent or family letters for your programs?
The Teacher's Guide of each curriculum contains paper copies of the parent or family letters. Electronic copies can be found here.

Assessment Tools

Are there assessment tools available for your programs?
Assessment tools for our SECOND STEP and STEPS TO RESPECT programs can be found here.

Previews and Purchasing

Is there a way I can look at some of the lessons before I purchase?
The easiest way to see our programs in action is to watch our online video previews:

More videos and other program information can be found in the Programs section. If you would like to preview a specific curriculum kit, please contact Client Support Services at info@cfchildren.org or 800-634-4449, ext. 200.

How much is shipping?
Orders are shipped via UPS. Standard shipping within the continental United States is 7 percent of the total order, with a minimum charge of $5.00. Standard shipping to states in the non-continental US and Canada is 10 percent of the total order, with a minimum charge of $10.00. International shipping is dependent on order size and delivery area.

How long will it take to receive my order?
Orders shipped within the continental United States may take up to 10 business days to arrive. Orders shipped outside the continental United States and to Canada may take up to 15 business days for delivery. International shipping is dependent on order size and delivery area. Rush delivery is possible for some orders.

Training

Is training required to teach your programs?
Training is not mandatory, but it can play a vital role in successfully implementing and sustaining our programs. Some grant-based funding sources may require training in order to fulfill the terms of the grant. For more information on the benefits of training staff, see our Training section.

What kind of training do you offer?
For information on the different types of training offered, scheduling, and the benefits of receiving training, see our Training section.

Differences Between Programs

What is the difference between the SECOND STEP and STEPS TO RESPECT programs?
The SECOND STEP program is designed to reduce aggression in preschool through eighth-grade students and provide them with prosocial skills. The lessons teach empathy, emotion management, impulse control, and problem solving skills. Unlike the STEPS TO RESPECT program, the SECOND STEP program can be taught effectively in a single classroom. However, schoolwide implementation is still considered ideal. Read about the research behind the SECOND STEP program.

The STEPS TO RESPECT curriculum focuses specifically on bullying prevention. It is designed to create a safe environment in which children can refuse and report bullying. In order for the program to be effective, all staff who have contact with the children must be trained in the curriculum concepts, bullying policies, and reporting procedures. One primary-grades bullying lesson is included in the program guide, but the program intentionally focuses on third- through sixth-grade students. Read about the research behind the STEPS TO RESPECT program.
