Bullying Report Booster Session
Bullying reports are a good thing. When students report bullying, adults can take action to stop it. To encourage children to report bullying, adults must invite children to report, and then follow through effectively.

To support your school's staff in receiving bullying reports, your STEPS TO RESPECT coordinator or steering team can conduct a 15–30 minute feedback session with staff.

Try the following format taken from the STEPS TO RESPECT Training Manual Booster Trainings.
  1. Introduce the session topic: receiving bullying reports.
  2. Review the Four-A Response Process: What can we say to AFFIRM the child's feelings? What questions should we ASK? How do we ASSESS the child's safety? What ACTions should we take?
  3. Ask participants whether they have received any reports.
  4. Ask, "How did you feel when you received the report?"
  5. Conduct a discussion about the Four-A Response Process. Ask: What obstacles did you face while using the Four-A Response Process? What did you do to help facilitate the process? What specific things will you do next time to make receiving reports more effective?
  6. Have participants comment about any follow-up they have done.
  7. Make sure participants know what to do after receiving a report from a child. Review your school's processes for communicating bullying incidents to key staff members.
  8. See how participants feel now about receiving reports.
  9. Close the session. Recognize that this was a worthwhile opportunity to discuss experiences with fellow staff. Encourage staff to keep up the Four-A Response Process so that students will feel empowered to help prevent bullying in their school.
