New York State Action Alert: Social and Emotional Learning The good news: New York has introduced beneficial SEL legislation. The bad news: It’s languishing in the state’s legislative committees, in part due to lack of support. Bill AB4541 would direct the state commissioner of education to create a pilot program for improving social and emotional learning in schools. Bills S767 and A1981 would complement AB4541 by shifting discipline efforts toward effective and supportive disciplinary methods that include social-emotional learning. This legislation, if passed, will improve school safety, school performance, and student success overall. Your state lawmakers need to hear from you. Please take a minute to send a prewritten email to them encouraging them to advance this important legislation.
