SEATTLE—Committee for Children (CFC), the global leader in research-based social-emotional learning (SEL), announces the expansion of its Public Relations and Communications team with the hiring of M’Bilia Meekers as senior public relations specialist. She joins Committee for Children as the organization celebrates its 40th anniversary by aiming to positively transform the social-emotional well-being of 100 million children annually by 2028.

“I’m thrilled to have M’Bilia join the team,” said Shauna McBride, director of PR and Communications. “Because we have great stories to tell as an organization, M’Bilia’s writing background and passion for strategic communications will prove an invaluable asset.”

Meekers earned her master’s degree in creative writing from New York University, where she taught as an adjunct graduate student instructor and saw the positive outcomes of social-emotional learning for students firsthand. She spent two years leading publicity efforts at nonprofit academic book publishers. Most recently, she worked as publicity manager for the University of Washington Press, the oldest and largest publisher of scholarly and general interest books in the Pacific Northwest.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with such talented professionals as a new addition to this bold and innovative organization, especially during a critical moment in its history,” said Meekers. “I consider it an honor to share meaningful stories about Committee for Children’s impact on children, schools, and communities across the globe. I can’t wait to get started!”
