Global Nonprofit Committee for Children Launches Captain Compassion #KindnessChallenge Published: Creator of the Acclaimed Second Step® Bullying Prevention Unit Dares Kids to Be Kind SEATTLE, Wash. – September 26, 2023 – Get ready to face a powerful challenge against bullying. Today, Committee for Children, a pioneer organization in research-based social-emotional learning (SEL) and bullying prevention, unveiled the #KindnessChallenge as part of its annual Captain Compassion® anti-bullying campaign. Just in time for October’s National Bullying Prevention Month, this innovative initiative empowers young people and adults to combat bullying in their schools and communities with superhero webcomics and a fresh, interactive challenge. Bullying has become a pervasive issue in schools and communities worldwide, affecting the physical and emotional well-being of countless children. In fact, one in five students report experiencing bullying at school and recent data shows 46 percent of American teens experience cyberbullying. However, when upstanders intervene, their intervention can reduce future instances of bullying by more than 50 percent. The Captain Compassion campaign and #KindnessChallenge equip children and families with the research-based life skills to be upstanders and create safer schools and communities free from bullying. Dive into the captivating Captain Compassion webcomic series at CaptainCompassion.org. The series weaves the magic of storytelling and imagination to ignite discussions about kindness, empathy, and standing against bullying when students see it at school or online. Featuring bullying prevention superhero Captain Compassion, readers will be encouraged to reflect on how they can take action to be kind today and how their kindness can help stop bullying in its tracks. Committee for Children invites parents, students, and educators to join the Captain Compassion #KindnessChallenge that encourages kids to take a stand against bullying. By inspiring kindness and empathy, the campaign aims to create a community where every child feels safe, valued, and supported. Children can participate in the campaign by: Visiting CaptainCompassion.org to read the new webcomic with their families or teachers each week in October Finding the clue in each comic and decoding the hidden word with the downloadable Secret Decoder Wheel Having their parents or educators enter them in the Captain Compassion Sweepstakes for the chance to win the grand prize For more information about the Captain Compassion #KindnessChallenge or to read the webcomics, visit CaptainCompassion.org.
