Grow Your Career While You Do It

Committee for Children is a nonprofit that’s on a mission to ensure children everywhere can thrive. Since 1979 we’ve championed the cause of educating the whole child through advocacy, leadership in the field, and social-emotional learning and child safety programs. Today our programs reach more than 26.9 million children worldwide.

What is SEL?

Social-emotional learning is the process of building skills to develop a healthy identity, manage emotions, understand others’ perspectives, and maintain positive relationships. SEL helps children and adults create stronger, safer, and more equitable schools and communities.

Committee for Children C

Why is SEL important?

Social-emotional learning provides a foundation for positive, long-term benefits for kids, adults, and communities. People with strong social-emotional skills are better equipped to cope with everyday challenges and can benefit academically, professionally, and socially.

How do we provide it?

Our Second Step® family of social-emotional learning programs is designed to help students recognize and manage their emotions, problem-solve, and contribute to a positive learning environment. We also offer a professional learning program for adults, as well as resources like The Imagine Neighborhood™ podcast that are designed to support SEL at home.
