What are the D300 faculty and staff saying about the Second Step program?

Success in school is not just about reading and math but also about learning social-emotional skills, which include knowing how to learn and how to get along with others. In many D300 elementary schools, Second Step is a social-emotional learning program being implemented in every classroom, every day. Second Step teaches skills to build self-regulation and social-emotional competence, both of which are important for school and life success. Children learn and practice vital skills for listening and paying attention, having empathy, managing emotions, building friendships, and solving problems with others. Currently, Step is being taught universally at the following schools: deLacey, Dundee Highlands, Golfview, Lake in the Hills, Lakewood, Liberty, Meadowdale, Perry, and Parkview. The program includes weekly themes with daily learning activities, using visual aids, puppets, songs, and engaging videos.
